Project Plan for Building a House

Introduction

This paper presents a project plan for building a house. The house will be built for a single family as that has been living in a rent house for a long time. House is a basic need of everyone whether it is luxurious or simple. The project planning activities pertaining to the building of a house are discussed in this paper. Being a big project, it will take several days to compete, including all the relevant aspects. Therefore, a Gantt chart is also provided with the WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) following the Critical Path Method (CPM) appropriately.

The project of building a house incorporates a number of activities that are necessary and crucial to the quality of the project.

Decision making and process management

Initially, the decision making process carries intense level of significance as the upcoming processes of project may create problems that are needed to be managed or resolved. For instance, the budget allocation and costing estimates and many others are the possible conflicted situations (Davenport, 2009, pp. 117-123).

While making decisions, the person needs to be pre-qualified with the lender, and the person should be well-aware of the site before buying the land. The whole planning process should be managed with systems view. Moreover, the importance of drawings & specifications cannot be denied. All the players associated with the bu9iding project should be interconnected with effective communication. The model of decision making also reveals the appropriate way of information sharing and the system of decision making. Most importantly, the owner of the house needs to be at the central position in all the decisions. Moreover, staying organized is also necessary pertaining to the creative activities of meeting the desired lifestyle in the form of a well-built house (Davenport, 2009, pp. 117-123).

Build or Design Matrix

The project of house building carries the consideration of build/design Matrix at every phase. The design phase incorporates all the relevant steps of drawing and specifications while the build phase incorporates all the construction related steps to be followed. The design phase includes schematic, design development, contract documents, bid/regulations, and construction observation. Similarly, the build phase includes the consideration of site, foundation, framing and roofing, exterior finish, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, insulation, drywall, interior finish, and landscape. These two phases work in collaboration and are needed to manage in both dimensions of the matrix (Mauger & Kubicki, 2013, pp. 318-330).
