Introduction

This discussion will attempt to define project management and explain its importance to the business world while explaining project life-cycle management and the benefits of project management to an organization. This will incorporate the explanation of the concepts of planning in the project life-cycle and the relevance of research and critical thinking in planning. The paper will explain project organizations and the importance of leadership and sponsorship in addition to an elaboration of project team building and techniques of successful team building. Areas that will be given relevance in this regard include those that pertain to the creation of a work breakdown structure and how a project manager breaks down the overall project into packages as well as the need for project management software in large integrated programs and the benefits to the overall project management organization. The thesis assertion of this paper is that effective project management can be considered to be a guarantee for successful project inception, development, implementation and evaluation.

Discussion & Analyses

A project is a temporary endeavor with start date and end, whose goal is to create or improve a product or service. Managing a project is to act in order to achieve the proposed objectives within quality parameters determined, following a previous planning deadlines (schedule) and cost (budget). That is, given the goals and constraints of resources and time, it is the project manager ensure that it achieves the objectives (Markic, Mesko, Stok & Hrast, 2012). Many companies are adopting project structure in their day-to-day. From designing a new software deployment procedures to customer service, from building a bridge to the review of sales processes in order to increase the rate of business closure, many ventures within organizations fall into class projects. In various sectors, the approach to project management is gaining ground by allowing a better use of resources to achieve well-defined goals for the organization (Reiss, 2011). Knowing the importance of managing a project well, we will see the steps that lead us to improve our project management skills.

It starts with hiring a company to run the project or the definition of internal employees who join the project team. On a given day, the project starts. This time should be formalized in a document called the end of the beginning of the project (Jacobs, Chase & Aquilano, 2009). In larger projects, a document must be signed by the sponsor and the project manager. For smaller projects, can be an e-mail that the manager sends to the sponsors, copying the others involved, to notify that moment begins the project and everyone involved in its implementation (Larson & Gray, 2011). One of the great secrets of project management is to protect your scope. Projects that are changing the scope during execution have serious difficulties in meeting the schedule and break the bank (Tesch, Kloppenborg & Frolick, 2007).
