Project Management And Construction Process

Introduction

Project management involves the ways and procedures in managing the resources of the firms. It involves managing with the changes and modifications in an efficient manner. Projects can be of many types. The construction processes also goes through the project management phases until its completion. Project management ensures the carrying out of activities in a way that fulfils specific objectives of the firm.

The companies or firms that carry out construction processes usually have particular budget with limited resource, limited funds as well as limited human resources to manage the construction activities. During the construction processes, the companies and firms face many problems particularly in deciding which activities to consider first and in deciding what changes are required in the construction projects. In managing the project, the firm's objectives are usually treated as flexible that may vary according to the problems that may arise during the construction processes. The firms while handling the projects set different priorities, numerous interdependencies, and numerous constraints on resources.

Project management particularly focuses on controlling the activities and the changes and it particularly involves carefully planning the work that needed to be done, planning the human resources and assigning them their duties, motivating the human resources to effectively and efficiently complete their assigned tasks, analyzing the needs and expectations of the stakeholders, coordinating all the activities of all the people involved in the construction projects, carefully monitoring the construction activities, planning and managing any changes required, and assisting the project to be completed with successful results.

Discussion

Task 1

Evaluate how project management can handle changes to the construction process and industry (new methods/ideas). Evaluate changes to the priorities of the construction and built environment sector.

Solution:

In the construction projects, many times the companies face the changes in the projects that require the modifications and changes in the existing conditions and the resources. The need to have changes is caused either by the internal or external factors. There are different types of changes that may have different impacts and effects upon the project situations. These types of changes involve the gradual change or the radical change (Gina A., 2012). The gradual changes occur slowly with the construction processes and its intensity is usually low. However, it carries a long time to implement the complete change. In the radical type's changes, the changes are occurred suddenly that are directly affected by the external market situations and other external factors.

The project management can handle changes to the construction process and industry by adopting creation procedural steps. These includes

defining what specific changes are required that are major to the company or the industry

which department will have to make the changes in it

setting out the detailed procedures of the changes

giving the authorities to monitor the implementation of changes according to defined procedure

the use of technological tools for the purpose of handling and managing the change processes

Implementing the proper communication channel and system in order to process and promote the changes in the projects ...
