Introduction

The assignment will provide a brief introduction about stereotype, prejudice, discrimination and the in-group and out-group bias that the people in the world of today are facing. The communities that are most affected are also discussed in the assignment along with the causes of such behaviors that have become persistent in the society.

Discussion

Prejudice

Prejudice is prejudgment that means that one takes the decision before becoming fully aware of the facts of the given situation or a person. The word today is mostly used in connection with persons who become victims of prejudgment based on the race, caste, color, creed, social class, disability, religion, sexuality, language or ethnicity. Unfounded beliefs also form a part of the prejudice and prejudgments (Zanna & Olson, 2013). In the context of the contemporary global society, prejudice is viewed as a highly negative entity.

Stereotype

A stereotype is a general assumption that is held about a group of people based on their race, caste, color, creed, ethnicity, religion, gender, status or nay other thing that differentiates them from others. This is the act of judging people in groups and basing a general assumption that all the people of the group are the same and anybody related to them also is a part of the group and hence the same.

Discrimination

Discrimination is defined as the distinguishing or prejudicial treatment that an individual faces because he belongs to a certain category or group of people. People are made a victim of discrimination on the basis of specific group that they belong to like their religion, their color, their ethnicity, their nationality, their religion, their gender or their community (Zanna & Olson, 2013).
