This aim has led to the development of innovative tools enabling the police department to handle the issue of crimes in a proactive manner. Predictive Policing

Introduction

The police departments under the current circumstances are being expected to perform more tasks with in less time.in the context of the public safety organizations, personnel costs represents one of the largest budget line item making the resource as one of the important consideration to police managers under the issue of the current restrictions in the budget. All these circumstances has led to the development of the new tools that will improve the effective use of the police resource making the agencies perform all their tasks in a more efficient manner regardless of the resource shortage. The research paper will explore the topic of predictive policing by highlighting the issues of the development of CompStat and the way it contributes to the development of efficient police department, the way the four functions of the information system has been implemented by CompStat, the way the police stations could respond faster to the crimes with the help of the information systems such as CompStat, and the SWOT analysis of the police department who have an aim to implement the predictive policing system initiatives.

Discussion

The law enforcement industry has opened itself to innovation that leads to the emergence of four eras in this field over a period of last 40 years (Ratcliffe, 2008). The events after the 9/11 attacks on United States made kit realize that the law enforcement community are expected to play a significant role in the war on terrorism (Lind, et al., 1989).

Predictive Policing

The crimes can be anticipated, prevented and responded in advance with the help of the predictive system of policing. The command staff and the police managers have been allowed by the predictive policing system to apply effective strategies and tactics to the public safety environment. The increase in the public safety is not only limited to the collection of the reporting and collection of data, but the future concerns have also to be taken into account. The vision of predictive policing will take the law enforcement from the point of focus of what happened to what will be happen and how to make and effective disposition of the resources at the time of crime bringing about a change in the outcome.
