Title

A QUESTIONNARE INVESTIGATING THE THEORETICAL ORIGINS OF PHOBIA

Introduction

It is a normality of life that many of us feel uncomfortable or fearful at situations due to certain objects. If this fear extends from the normal level of fear and effects your personnel activities and social movements than this anxiety disorder is claimed a phobia.

Phobia has been derived from a Greek word meaning fear or terror. People who have the psychological illness of phobia either try to avoid the situation or become very anxious in the situation. Phobia can be generally classified into two type's specific and complex phobias (TBPS, 2008).

Specific Phobia

In this illness a person has an anxiety for a single object, activity or situation. The common types of objects for phobia concern are animals and insects such as cockroach, mouse, cat, dog, snake and spiders. Situational phobia concerns with heights like flying or moving through an escalator. In this kind of situation the feared person may vomit or choke (Peters, 2011).

Complex Phobias

Complex phobia is further categorized into two types' agoraphobia and social phobia. In the case of agoraphobia a person can fear from crowds or open spaces, public places or entering into shops and travelling alone away from family (Ogliari, 2011).

In the case of social phobia if a person feels uncomfortable in a crowd or reacts in situation where public speaking is concerned for e.g. stage fright people (Karabekiroglu, 2011).

Phobia is a very common element found in growing children till the age of 12, mostly the children succeed in overcoming their phobia by the age of 6 but in some cases it extends till the age of 12. People usually adopt phobia when undergoing stress period in their lives (ÇAVUSOGLU, 2011).

Rationale

The study will be answering which of the phobia is common in adolescence after the age of 12. This research will help clinical psychologists to consider this research as a bench mark and derive new methods to eliminate the most common type of phobia.

Aim

To investigate the common type of phobia present in adolescence who are elder than 12 years old.

Hypothesis

The null Hypothesis (H0) for this research paper is that the most common type of phobia amongst adolescence is specific phobia. The alternate Hypothesis (H1) for this research is that specific phobia is not the most common type. If our null hypothesis fails then we will apply the same statistical tools by replacing agoraphobia with specific phobia in our null hypothesis.

Method

Research Method

The research method involved in this case is exploratory research involved with scientific methods and qualitative research.

Non - Scientific Method

The method is a non - scientific one as it involves a hypothesis is considered before undertaking the research. The observations are not tested and retested and evaluated as in the case of scientific research.

Quantitative Research

The research is a quantitative research as it largely depends on the numeric values of the answers obtained. In case of qualitative results the numbers don't matter.

The students will be given a presentation upon phobia and ...
