Description of the disease

The highly contagious disease Pertussis is commonly known as whooping cough. Another common name for the disease is cough for 100 days. The coughing the patient grows from mild symptoms to actual fits of coughing (Ulrich, 2001). This severe form of coughing can last for as long as six weeks. The disease is prevalent in both adults and children but its occurrence in children is particularly dangerous. This is so because the treatment through medicine has very limited affect on the disease and can help only to the extent of decreasing the intensity.
