Introduction

It is common knowledge that employees form the back bone of any company or organization. How they perform, has a huge impact on the overall performance of the organization or company to which they belong to. Various strategies and motivational strategies are devised in organizations to in order to get the employee to improve his/her performance, in turn benefiting the company even more. One of those strategies is Performance Appraisals.

Thesis Statement

This paper is written to observe the effects and strategic advantages of performance appraisal on employee productivity and how they can help achieve strategic objectives of the company.

Discussion

Performance Appraisal is the idea where employees are given benefits or monetary bonuses as incentives to perform better. This involves periodical analysis of the employee's performance with respect to the goal set by the company. The accomplishment of the goal plus extra work merits a bonus for the employee. P.A is usually excellent motivation strategy as it gives the employee a tangible benefit within a short term, thus motivating him to give 110%.

Employees can be rewarded on organizational citizenship behavior, exhibiting the potential for future improvement, accomplishments, identifying and improving their strengths and weaknesses. Through this P.A it also becomes possible to identify the best candidate for a promotion. Communication is the gap between employers and their staff members. If this is not properly bridged, it can result in devastating effects. Once the practice of PA's develops the employees get directly involved with their bosses, which induces, a sense of trust with their employer. They get the chance to know about their weakness and shortcomings so they can avoid repeating their mistakes in the future.
