CHAPTER 4: FINDINGS AND ANALYSIS
Introduction
Pilot studies can prove to be useful in determining the feasibility of a study and testing the proposed methods, measurements, and procedures . In the case of this study, the questionnaire will need to be piloted. It will be piloted before official use to establish content validity and reliability. Content validity refers to how well the conclusions from content of the test samples, the subject matter, or situation are drawn. Participants in the pilot study will be secondary teachers from a neighboring school system with similar characteristics. The secondary school teachers will be asked to complete the four part research instrument and make suggestions for any necessary change relative to clarity and inclusion of statements that would contribute to the purposes of this study. Results from the pilot study will be reported.
Reliability and Validity of Research Instrument
The findings of the present study can be claimed as reliable since the subject of the investigation is related to the perception of secondary teachers on incorporating reading in the content area. Therefore, the secondary school teachers were selected to be the targeted population of the present research. This population turned out to be the best possible addressees related to the study, which has been useful for assuring the validity and reliability of the study. Moreover the data collection methods employed by the study have also generated the most relevant data, which includes the first hand information derived from survey.
The determination of validity of a research specifically the primary research is of prime significance. Validity of results is concerned with the accuracy of the calculated determinants in the research and itself is a vital determinant in the design of the used instrument. The questions included in the survey questionnaire of this study were constructed from literature and with the intention of keeping the survey simple and understandable to the respondents so as to extract comprehensive results out of the collected data.
