Introduction

The population of humans around the word is multiplying at a steady pace. Even though the United States still has not felt the impact of an exploding population and rapidly depleting natural resources, there are several countries across the globe that have started to feel the adverse effects of lack of resources and basic needs such as food and education (Zeaman, 2001). Today, the population of the world is close to a staggering nine billion. Simply turning on the television greets the viewer with campaign advertisements that request donations for some third-world country where children do not have the luxury to go to school or even afford two meals a day. Are these challenging conditions the characteristics of all poor nations or the growing side effects of population explosion? It is mostly believed that overpopulation is the main reason for a wide range of inequalities across the globe.

Discussion

National Geographic has highlighted that the highest population has taken place in Arica and large parts of Asia that mainly comprises of under-developed countries. It also explains that this rapid and uncontrolled growth in the population of the world has meant that the already depleting resources of the world are divided among more people (Zeaman, 2001). As a result, more people living in third-world countries are deprived of the basic amenities of life such as a decent meal, sanitation or clean drinking water. According to the National Geogrpahic, the most alarming explosion of population has taken place in Africa. Africa is inarguably the poorest continent of the world and it comprises of several countries where is a majority of the population lives below the poverty line (Thornton, 1846). This is a serious concern for the entire population of the world.
