Introduction

In today's era, the competition among the people as well as among the organizations has increased to a great extent. In order to be competitive and survive in the modern world, individuals are required to continuously enhance and polish their skills (Anna, C., 2000, pp. 124). The individuals that, on the continual basis, develop their skills tend to achieve the competitive positions in the industry are rendered as successful. The technological as well as strategic advancements are being continuously made in every field of life. New trends, concepts as well as new technologies are emerging that are required to be learnt and to be adopted by individuals to achieve the adequate level of positions in the business environment (David & Vivien, 2003, pp. 52).

My current role

I am a motivated, adaptable and responsible HR professional working at GSIS since on 6 August 2009 as Human Resources Assistant. I have been promoted to Human Resources Officer as of 1 August 2011. Having 13 years work experience in different fields. I see myself to be self-motivated, organised and capable of working under pressure. I have a clear, logical mind with a practical approach to problem solving and a drive to see things through to completion. I enjoy working on my own initiative or in a team. In short, I am reliable, trustworthy, hardworking and eager to learn and have a genuine interest in HR.

Standards in HR profession

In order to have the professionalism in the market, certain skills and competencies are required in order to carry out the assigned duties and responsibilities with great efficiency and effectiveness.. The HR professionals must be efficient at understanding the HR needs of the organization (Robert et al, 2009, pp. 96).

The self assessment plan in HR profession involves the evaluation of HR professionals on the basis of their business performances and knowledge in each of the above mentioned competency domains. This self assessment provides a brief analysis on the functional role of an employee, years spent in HR employment, the company size and geographical area. All these factors assess the strength and challenges of an HR professional. It also evaluates the personal and professional developmental agendas (Ulrich, 2008).

In HR profession, the behaviors and skills can be defined under the six specific bands of professional competencies. These competencies are vital for a number of business themes that are practiced globally. As a Recruit manager in school, there are certain skills and behavior require for the effective results

One of the prime competency of an HR professional is as a strategic positioner. They are able to enumerate external business trends and comply them into internal actions and decisions. By making strategic and organizational choices, they can co-create the strategic responses of an organization.
