Apple is a global giant whose success has been built on outsourcing to a range of other organizations located across the world. How can different organizational theory perspectives assist us in acquiring different understandings of Apple, its organizational networks and influence? In this essay you must use at least two perspectives to analyze Apple.

The corporate world these days has been undergoing various changes and transformations on a global level. Many successful global giants have adopted the outsourcing activities and other organizational operations on an enormous level and are experiencing supernormal profits. One such company is Apple Incorporation, which has obtained success by outsourcing its organizational activities to various other companies located across the world. We will study Apple Incorporation as a part of the organization theory so that it can be theorized and explained as an important subject. While doing so, the key areas to be studied would be structure, power, technology, environment and organizational effectives.

Apple: Company Profile

Apple Incorporation is an American multinational corporation, which manufactures and sells computer software, consumer electronics, and personal computers. Apple Company has some of its best-known accessories and hardware products which include the iPod, Macintosh line of computers, the iPod and the iPhone. Its software includes the OS X and iOS operating system; the iTunes media browser; and the iLife and iWork creativity and production suites. The company, Apple Incorporation, is the third-largest mobile phone maker in the world followed by Nokia and Samsung (Gartner Newsroom, 2012). The company was established in 1976 and was incorporated on January 3, 1977 in Cupertino, California. For the first thirty years of its life, the company was given the name Apple Computer, Inc. Later, during the year 2007, the word "Computer" was eliminated from the company's name. This change was made because the company had moved away its conventional focus from the personal computers to consumer electronics (Markoff, John, 2007). The company, Apple, was admired the most by the Fortune magazine during the year 2008 in the United States, and the company became the most appreciated and complimented organization in the entire world from 2008 to 2012. However, there was a widespread criticism regarding the contractors' labor practices of Apple and for its own business and environmental practices (Musgrove, Mike, 2006).

Apple Incorporation, own more than 364 retail stores operating in over thirteen countries along with an online store known as Apple Store. In terms of the market capitalization, Apple Incorporation is the largest company which is publicly traded globally. Moreover, with respect to the profits and revenues also, it is the largest company in the technology sector globally and generates more revenues than Microsoft and Google combined. Apple Incorporation hires 2,900 temporary full-time employees and 60,400 permanent full-time employees from all across the world; during the year 2010, the company's global annual revenue totaled $65 billion, which increases to $108 billion in 2011.
