Organizational Psychology Identifiers in Problem Solving
Organizational Psychology Identifiers in Problem Solving
Introduction
It has been noted by several authors that psychology is an area which has two faces, one being the scientific and the other being practical. However, there are many issues that have faced psychology and the different components that are associated with it.The topics that are researched on by the psychologists are frequently not related with and have little relevance for the problems faced by organizations and their workers in problem solving. It has been an established fact that there has been many differences between theory and practice and that for many years it was realized that there were serious between the research and practice of the theories presented by these researchers. There are few studies that show and observe discrepancies such as the personal perceptions and beliefs of the psychologists. For instance, the manager'srelations with others in the organization are one inherent issue on how it is believed by the psychologist. Therefore, one major issue is that psychologists themselves have a contribution to the belief in their discipline.
Discussion
The discrepancies that were outlined in the beginning of the paper are interrelated and all the research which is conducted on these issues is mostly done in United States. Therefore, there is a lack of understanding from other regions that limit the study. Similarly, in New Zealand there was only one study that showed the contributions of the psychologists for problem solving in the organizations. A study conducted in 1970s showed that personal managers in many countries like the United States, Australia and New Zealand considered it desirable to employpsychologists in their organizations. However, much has changed since 1970's and thus, there is little reliance on the issues that are faced today in the organizations. This paper aims to understand major developments that are made by cognitive psychology in twenty years to show knowledge can help in problem solving.
In the 1960's we know that computers started emerging in different sectors along with computer simulation used in problem solving. It was the use of string heuristics that led to solution for a particular problem. To understand this phenomenon better the program was researched in a puzzle type way to have few people and different solutions. The main idea of finding the right solution was to look for a path that can change the problem from its initial position to the final position which was required. Thus, the method used in problem solving was through external information provided through understanding how individuals will behave after a particular decision. A major finding of the problems was that humans use heuristics such as means and end analysis and work backwards to reach their goals. However, again one limitation of these finding's was that in a situation where two events can occur at the same time troubled the issue of heuristics. A research on cognitive psychology showed that replication and elaboration of a problem from an expert person's view was not in the jurisdiction of a novice individual employed by ...
