Fresenius Value Chain Analysis

Inbound logistics

Value Chain Analysis starts from inbound logistics. As far as inbound logistics is concerned Fresenius has an absolute advantage since they have their own comprehensive logistics program named as True Blue having 400 assets and 13 warehouses. True Blue not only offer company great variability but also a lot of cost saving. True Blue is always at the disposal of the FMC and it can use it for in-bound logistics as and when it wants, and this thing improves its responsiveness to market demand. Therefore having True Blue as its in-house logistics solution improves company bottom line position as well as its ability to meet customer need better and quicker than competitors.

Operations

For operations, the guiding philosophy of the company is reliability, innovativeness and efficiency. Since the company is in the business of supplying dialysis machines for patients suffering from chronic kidney failure, therefore, the chances of error are not tolerable; therefore nature of the business requires the company to design machines which are of the utmost quality but efficiently which means the company is basically following innovative best-value strategy. The company's plant at Schweinfurt is the best example of this strategy being implemented by the company, which is depicted by the fact that Schweinfurt Plant is the source of one out of every two dialysis machines being used around the world. Creativity is not stifled through rigid structures rather teamwork is emphasized with continuous improvement. This has led to the achievement of several awards by this plant.

Outbound Logistics

The company philosophy on outbound logistics is almost same as that of inbound logistics. Company owns True Blue, but it is not just enough for global delivery of its products at accurate delivery times therefore, the company has created downstream supply chain partnership with Transplace Management System. Since Transplace Management System has several branches all over the world and also have several agents or subsidiaries in different parts of the world it allow FMC to achieve its goal of delivering right products at the right time and at a lower cost than competitors to its customer.
