Introduction

There are many different organizations in the business world. All of them are distinct in their culture, as well as, in behavior that the employees show. The behavior of employees is determined by the rituals, the customs and the culture that the respective organization has. Employee behavior is also one of the main determinants of checking the efficiency of an organization. An organization with the best organizational behavior is sure to be a step ahead of all the other organizations, which lack a particular behavior. A lot of things come under the heading of organizational behavior. Power and politics, decision making, managing teams, understanding the role of communication and the like. In this essay, the process of decision making will be discussed.

Organizational Behavior

Organizational behavior is defined as the study of the interaction of people within an organization or groups (Robbins, Judge, 2008). The aim of this study and ultimately improve the behaviors and attitudes of the people in an organization (Mcgraw Hill, 2010). This study is applied to create a more efficient and effective business organization (Schermerhorn et.al 2010). There are many theories of organizational behavior, which can be used, to maximize the output of all the employees of an organization (www.investopedia.com). Organizational behavior includes in itself, many phenomena, which determine, the behavior of the people in the organization.

Determinants of Organizational Behavior

There are various determinants of organizational behavior. These determine the type of behavior and the environment that an organization will have, the most important factors that determine the behavior of an organization include the personality. Personalities of the individual employees, as well as, the employers determine the kind of behavior that the people in the organization will have. Motivation, power and politics, communication, all play a very important role in determining the organizational behavior (Buchanan, Huczynski, 2004). Organizational behavior is also influenced by the national, as well as, the organizational culture. The history of the organization, the values of the founders and their vision of the organization, also determine the behavior of the organization. Organizational behavior is also affected by the reward system of an organization. . Motivation, power and politics, communication, all play a very important role in determining the organizational behavior (Buchanan, Huczynski, 2004). Promotional opportunities and the level of motivation provided to the employees, also affect their behavior. It is also affected by the level of autonomy that is provided to the individual employee (Mullins, 2006).

Decision Making

Decision making can be regarded as a cognitive process. This process results in the selection of certain course of actions chalked out for dealing with certain situations, opportunities or problems. It is the course of choosing among different alternatives. The decision making process yields a final choice to pursue (Reason, 1990). It can also be termed as a thought process, which helps a person in selecting a choice which is logical, from a list of alternatives (www.businessdictionary.com).
