In the global arena of today, the world is revolving around a complex and competitive environment that leads the organizations to create and manage them through an edge. Organizations that lack the development of a framework of effectiveness and efficiency eventually vanish from the face of the corporate world. The world is rapidly changing, and therefore, the success measures and tactics for the organizations tend to flow towards new requirements every going day (Cameron, 2010).

Effectiveness and efficiency are terminologies pertaining to the roots of the survival of the organization. In all cases, any organization without developing a track record of management that endorses efficiency and effectiveness tends to fail. The term organizational effectiveness is defined as “the capability of an organization to achieve desired outcome through its managerial and production functions”, whereas, the term organizational efficiency is defined as “the ratio of the amount of output produced by the business with the amount of resources invested in the business”. Effectiveness and efficiency go hand in hand, they are quite congruent concepts. An organization could never be efficient without being effective and vice versa (Hall, 2007).

The paper discusses basic concepts that deal with organizational effectiveness and efficiency, as well as, assesses different paradigms that deal with them. It also explains the course of action for an organization to become both efficient and effective, as well as, focuses the main idea pertains to different components of organizational functioning leading to effectiveness and efficiency. The paper finally wraps up and summarizes the entire concepts with the importance of efficiency and effectiveness in the organization.

Significance of Organizational effectiveness

Organizational effectiveness is a very fundamental concept in the business and management literature. It is the measure of success of the organization, as well as, the survival of the organization. It determines the capacity of the organization to meet desired goals with the existing level of resources. Organizational effectiveness is the tendency to meet benchmarks and targets for a given period of time, and that on consistent basis.

Organizational effectiveness is explained as the spread of organizational success over a long-term and significant perspective, rather than, a more sophisticated and strategic focus for the organization. The foundation of organizational effectiveness is holistic, long term and perpetual, and not merely determined by a one or two components such as sales, profits and other similar measures. Organizational effectiveness is the determinant of survival of the organization in the long run. The element is extremely crucial to organizational wellness; however, the focus is to initiate a culture and set of practices that integrate resources and functions in a blend of goal achievement (Carton, 2006).
