Introduction

Business Wear Ltd (BWL) started off as a small formal menswear store on high street with two workers about 11 years ago in a small British city with population of over 500,000 people like Bradford. It then expanded to a large store and grew to employ 10 employees about 5 years ago. Due to its quality, fashionable suits and related products it expanded continuously. Today, it employs over 50 employees in its 8 branches in 8 major British cities. It has a number of central departments, namely: Accounting, Sales & Marketing, HRM, Logistics, Warehousing. Its retail departments are based in various cities, as mentioned earlier. It buys its products from a whole seller, based both at home and abroad. Each of its department plays an essential role in selling its suits onto customers (James, 2000, 65-69).

For example, the sales department orders products, which get stored in the warehouse. The warehouse then forwards them onto the retail section (ready for shelving). BWL takes the fashion preferences of its (potential) customers into account when purchasing products for sale. So many departments are involved and handle a lot of product related information (Kenneth, Laudon 2006, 340-46). For example the accounts department is involved in handling purchase orders and paying for goods, whereas the marketing department collects information about the popularity of particular products and then advises the organisation to acquire particular types of products. It also markets and advertises the BWL's products. Effective information security depends on taking a multi-layered approach, combining technical, organisational and legal countermeasures.
