Executive Summary

Operational management is responsible for ensuring that business operations are running smoothly and efficiently with the limited resources available. It manages the acquisition and utilization of resources that the organization needs in order to deliver products and services to its customers based on their wants. Thus, it manages all those processes that convert inputs into outputs is the second largest computer manufacturing company of the world. It is an American multinational organization, whose core business is to built, sell and support computer, computer products and other related services. It is one of the largest technological corporations in the world and third largest PC vendor. The company is well known for its efficient supply chain management and electronic management. Dell's major competitors include Hewlett Packard, Acer, Toshiba, IBM, Sony, Lenovo, Samsung, Apple, Gateway and Sun Microsystems.

In this report we have conducted and study the full appraisal of the operational functions of an organization based on empirical data and also to suggest how the operational processes can be improved to enhance the organizations performance. We have also attempted to fulfill the purpose by thoroughly studying the operational processes of our selected organization, Dell Inc. In this study we have included tactics and strategy that the company has adopted in order to meet its operational management challenges, overcoming problems and finally to achieve its strategic objectives. We determined and outlined the main strengths of the organization. This information helped us in getting an overview of how the organization competes in the market. We then got an integrative picture of organizations operations, some details pertaining to the task involved in the process. Through this research we critically analyzed and evaluated how the organizational process is currently managed in an organization. We evaluated it in terms of products, processes and system of material or information.

There were many strategies adopted by the company however, the two strategies that are most important and aligns perfectly with the mission and vision of the company are information sharing and virtual integration as well as cost efficiency or direct business selling model. Hence throughout the report we focus only on the two of these strategies for the purpose of our study.
