Nursing Informatics: Communication Theory- Bandura

Abstract

Informatics is a specialty that not only processes data, it also needs them and feeds on any information that is established for the collaborative exchange, so it is a tool for development of any science. Nursing as a profession and discipline developed and on its way to take possession as a science requires the latest advances in science and technology, hence the importance of describing the most important tools of information technology for networking in nursing. We conclude that there are no contradictions between nursing and computer science, a matter of changing behaviors to new technologies, to suit the times and the development of science and thus seize the opportunity offered by the nursing informatics in their way to become a science where the networking should be a priority. As the paper describes that the current trends in nursing are scientific exchange as one of its bases the networking, these are being strengthened at a rapid rate, hence it is essential for nurses to study and have mastery on information technology and knowledge, to modify not only their habits and behavior patterns, but also ways of thinking.

Introduction

As per the definition of the ANA (American Nurses Association) nursing informatics is a specialty, which puts together information and computer science for managing and communicating knowledge, data and information in nursing practice. The specialty makes possible the integration of knowledge, data and information for supporting nurses, patients and various providers of healthcare within their decision-making in each setting and role. The integration of information, data and knowledge is achieved through the utilization of information structures and information technology that organizes knowledge, data and information for processing by computers (ANA, 2000). This paper discusses nursing informatics in a holistic context along with the identification and examination of communication nursing informatics theory by Bandura.

Discussion and Analysis

Supporting in each aspect of nursing care of patients starting from admittance in the healthcare setting to discharge of the patient information technology is severely shifting how nurses manage, administer care for, treat and diagnose their patients. Information Technology's integration in nursing facilitates the pertinent data (i.e. collected by nurses) flow, which improves access to information of the patient at the point of care, and improves capabilities of nurses towards benchmarking, monitoring and auditing quality measures. By means of nursing informatics, the passion for innovation, nursing and technology directs to higher quality nurse - patient interactions and enhanced patient outcomes.

The models and theories of nursing are intended to describe, establish and review the events that shape the practice of Nursing. As per the communication nursing informatics theory by Bandura the present day is marked by technological convergence between electronics, computing, telecommunications, among others, which has its maximum expression in the emergence and rapid growth that has taken the Internet.
