Report the findings from the quiz - what kind of leader were you? How does this fit into your beliefs about your leadership style?

The quiz I took in order to evaluate my leadership skills, showed that I am a participative leader. A Participative Leader, rather than taking autocratic decisions, seeks to involve other people in the process, possibly including subordinates, peers, superiors and other stakeholders. In this style opinions of other people are considered in decision making.

It is way of leadership where a leader involves their followers or employees in decision making and considers their suggestion and participation very important; however, the final say is of the leader. Group members are asked to pool in their suggestion and then selecting the best idea. Then group members are given their tasks with permission to work independently.

Being a leader with participative approach has both weaknesses and strengths. It may be your greatest strength when you are working in an advertising agency or related businesses where you have to unleash your inner creativity and work on campaigns with an innovative approach. In such situations, it is normal that innovative ideas come from the team mates (Kelly, 2007).

Discuss the attributes of leadership that may be needed for graduate level nurses.

Integrity is a fundamental leadership attribute.  Nurses expect to be able to trust their leaders.  Followers become very insecure when trust breaks down in the work environment.  When leaders are inconsistent in their expectations or if they don't role model the behaviors that they expect of their staff, trust is compromised.

Empathy is defined as the ability to be sensitive to the needs of others.  Most nurses have no difficulty being empathetic with patients but may behave very differently with their team members.  Combined with integrity, empathy helps to drive trust.  It gives ...
