Nursing is a very noble profession; however, it is full of challenges. Nurse plays a very significant role in Hospitals in order to provide care to patients. They not only provide the prescribed medication to the patients, but also offer care and personal touch to the patients. They also assist administration in making crucial decisions. They are very active in providing their assistance, when the recruitment process takes place in the Hospital. In this paper, we will discuss various studies conducted by researchers on this topic.
Review of Literature
Adeline, who is an Assistant Professor at School of Nursing (University of Western Ontario London), worked on the role of Nurses. He has presented the theory of Watson, who stressed the role of personal care and touch in serving the patient. He proposed that it is important to develop self confidence in the patients that will help them to recover. It focuses on Person Centered Approach. Nurses must have a good relationship and trust that arises in the counseling relationship. Ongoing analysis of the relationships, behaviors and interactions in the consultation process are an essential part of the consultation. The theory emphasizes not only the individual development of man, but also focuses on the development of strong mutual relationship between the client and the patient. It is therefore, logical that the approach has been developed for diverse groups (Thorpe, 2003).
The therapist chooses to create a positive emotional relationship type where he became involved in order to secure the patient and facilitate its expression. In a so-called active listening, the therapist allowed the present lives, which is favored in history, by establishing a suitable climate. It is mainly the result of three "attitudes" towards the client: empathy (he started in his place), congruence (agreement with you) and unconditional constructive acceptance. Hence, the Author stresses the changes taking place in today's world of Nursing.
Samir et.al, in 2005, studied the problem of communication gap in the operation room between the operating team. The authors have raised their concerns over the communication gap between Doctors, Surgeons and Nurses (operating team), during an operation. It creates huge problems for not only the team, but is also a threat to patient's safety. The authors conducted a survey in the local hospital to conclude that there is a serious communication gap, between the members of the team. The increase in error rate in the operations led to such a research from the researchers. Authors presented figures on large number deaths caused during operation caused by either lack of communication or negligence from the operating team. The study found out that communication gap between Doctors and Surgeons could lead to catastrophic medical errors. However, there has been an increase in research has focused these issues and presented solutions to the problems faced.
The authors proposed trainings session for the team to solve this issue, using Crew Management Principles. These training sessions would include role playing, training films and interactive participation. When applying these techniques, it is also important ...
