Introduction

Napoleon Bonaparte was a French political and military leader, whose prominence evolved during the later stages of the French Revolution. As a matter of fact, the underlying cause behind such a revolution was the wars in the European region. He remained the Emperor of France from the year 1804 to 1815. The Napoleonic code, one of his major legal reforms, served as the prime example for most of the civil laws of the world. With the passage of time, the wars fought during the reign of Napoleon, helped France to invade most of the territories of Europe. The idea of French revolution can be said as one of the invention of this French leader.

Napoleon was born on August 15, 1769. The names of his parents were Carlo Maria dl Bonaparte and Maria Letizia Romolion. As a matter of fact, among his siblings, he was the fourth child and third son. Napoleon had an elder brother whose name was Joseph; however, his younger siblings were Lucien, Elisa, Louis, Pauline, Caroline and Jerome. Among his siblings, the brother of Napoleon including Joseph Bonaparte, Lucien Bonaparte, Louis Bonaparte, and Jerome Bonaparte enjoyed lucrative benefits during his reign. They were posted on higher administrative and military posts in order to run the French Empire.

Throughout his life, Napoleon Bonaparte acted as a savior for his family in order to protect the large brood of siblings, including the four brothers and three sisters. The death of his father took place in 1785; however, with that, he was the oldest son and acted as the head of the family there after. His capacity to play the role is commendable since he put all his effects and dedication for the weal and welfare of his siblings. After achieving the power in France, Napoleon appointed his four brothers to key positions; some of them were made dukes, kings and other counts. Usually historians call it a favorable move from the side of Napoleon. Although one of his brothers, Lucian Bonaparte, had the intelligence as well as administrative ability, yet rest of the family did not possess necessary skills to run the vast empires. Hence, the placing of those on such positions is often termed as nepotism.

Joseph Bonaparte (1768-1844)

Joseph Bonaparte was the elder brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. He was born on January 7, 1768 and died in July 1844. Napoleon made him as the king of Naples and Sicily from the period 1806 till 1808; however, later he was made as the King of Spain from 188 till 1813. Joseph was a lawyer, diplomat and politician who also served as the ambassador of France to Rome. He was married to Marie Julie Clary on August 1, 1794. In the year 1795, Joseph was a member of Council of Ancients, in that regard; he used his position in order to help his brother, Napoleon Bonaparte, to overthrow the Directory.
