Teamwork and Motivation

Introduction

We live in highly globalized world, where information technology, competition and companies are faced with a serious dilemma. Management on one hand considers human resource capital as a vital to the organization and on the other side; firms consider outsourcing the operations and downsizing to reduce the cost. More and more organizations, however, are realizing that downsizing and outsourcing are not the right solution. These short time solutions on one hand destroy and disrupt the organizational culture and on the other hand it demotivates and demoralizes the existing workforce. Therefore, it is not outsourcing or downsizing to make a firm more profitable, but the real and long lasting solution to these issues is to develop a motivational plan for workforce and by the help of this motivational plan converts them into a valuable asset for the firm. Motivation is an internal and intangible force that exhibits itself in the performance of employees. The WooWoo widget is readily available in the market and is less expensive comparing with its competitors. Sale turnover is high, but the problem lies in the defects of the product, which in result increase the cost and cause delays in delivery. Therefore to remove these defects of the product, technology department needs attention of the management. Because when the defects are removed of products than the associated cost will also reduce and reducing this cost will also allow a company to promote the performance of employees by providing incentives to them. Few important parts of the motivational plan are given below. The aim of motivational plan is to increase job satisfaction of employees, to increase high turnover in sales, produce high productivity and high quality work.

Motivational Plan for the Company

Connecting Business Strategies with Rewards

According to the study conducted by Watson Wyatt that the approximately 70% high performing organizations incorporate incentive based strategy with business strategies. In the case of this company, it is desired to link the removing defects of products as soon as possible to the compensation strategy for employees (Outram & Gilbert 2003). The overall workforce of the technology department is needed to be given incentives if they produce products without any flaw. Similarly, the performance of the sales department is to be based on rewards. The more they achieve the sale the more they would be rewarded.

Connecting Reward Design with the Employee's Requirement

This is really important to pay attention to the needs of employees and design incentive policy according to the needs of employees. Monetary incentive is no doubt works for motivation, but monetary incentive is not the everything what employee wants. Sometime simple recognition of employee's performance motivates and results in the better performance. Recognition of every department like technology, sales etc must be encouraged within the company. Giving transportation facility like providing car and providing house accommodation like furnished house etc are few incentives that cater needs of employees.
