Motivating People at Work

Introduction

Motivation is the driving force behind every action that initiates and guides a person to act more efficiently than before. Human beings perform various tasks but there is a driving force behind every task they perform. They should be motivated in order to perform their task in the best possible manner. Motivation plays a prominent role in outstanding performance. The performance in this situation care accumulated in academics, house and work etc. All the performances including the small or big tasks and duties, requires a certain motivation because once an individual gains motivation, he/she can easily perform their duties in a more extraordinary manner (Conchie, 2013, p. 198).

The two basic types of motivation are Extrinsic and Intrinsic motivation levels. The Extrinsic motivation is the level of motivation that comes from monetary rewards, recognition programs and other external sources. Extrinsic type of motivation is very necessary to have in workplace because every employee and employer wants to have recognition in respect and reward to become a successful person. Every organization must have to make sure that they provide extrinsic motivation to their employer and employees so that they perform at their highest level (Conchie, 2013, p. 198).

There are many theories of motivation. Each theory of motivation is intended to describe what humans are and what they can become. Therefore, one can say that the content of a theory of motivation lies in its conception of persons. The content of a theory of motivation allows us to understand the world of dynamic performance in which they operate the organization, describing the managers and employees involved in organizations every day. As theories of motivation deal with the development of individuals, the content of a theory of motivation also serves managers and employees to handle the dynamics of life in organizations (Conchie, 2013, p. 198).

The process theory that I have chosen is the Expectancy Process Theory. This expectancy process theory states that employees can be motivated to perform in an enhanced manner, when there is a strong assumption that the improved performance will result in good performance appraisal and that this better performance will lead to an understanding of personal goal in form of some benefit or incentive (Farmer, 2012, pp. 5-5).

The content theory that I have chosen is the Maslow Theory. This theory consists of a pyramid of five levels of hierarchy. The lower-level needs are biological in nature, while needs at eh higher level are physiological in nature. Thus, motivation plays a dominant role in increasing productivity and creating a competitive environment in the organization.

Findings and discussion

The results that are concluded from the questionnaire that has been carried for the 10 people I have questioned are proving to give a positive result. Almost in every individual I found that they are satisfied with the job they are doing and in which they are also good at. The company they are working in provides them with lot of space and leverage to work in a ...
