Introduction

The importance of the modern museum has always remained very high in the history of arts. The development of the modern museum after the eighteenth century was considered a huge milestone in the field of arts. Though, the main objective in this assignment is to discuss the four examples of early collections that developed before the eighteenth century and invention of the modern museum. There were several collections that were prepared before the invention of the modern museum and then they were displayed in many museums later on in the next centuries. Therefore, all issues related to early four collections and modern museum will be discussed in detail.

Four early collections before the invention of the modern museum in pre-18th century

The Peale Family has always been referred as a talented family of artists. Charles Wilson Peale (1741-1827) painted around one thousand portraits of the famous figures in ancient USA. He had two sons who also followed the footsteps of his father by becoming artists. They were Raphaelle (1774-1825) and Rembrandt (1778-1860). Charles' brother known as James (1749-1831), was even a famous artist in the city of Philadelphia. The two daughters of the James known as Claypoole (1791-1878) and Sarah Miriam (1800-1885), were the early female artists in the history of USA.

Charles Willson Peale, was an artist that had a brilliant mind who explained the American culture as a part of an Enlightenment process that became very famous those days. The paintings of Charles mostly covered the cultural issues and suggested some measures for improvement in some of the areas for the betterment of whole American society. Therefore, this particular painting also reflected the cultural aspect of that time.

Charles Willson Peale also painted another famous portrait known as Staircase Group in 1795, while living in Philadelphia and impressed many people with his art. The image depicted his two sons. As Raphaelle was an artist, so he had the painting items in his hand in the image.
