Introduction

Christianity and Islam are known as the two of the oldest and largest religions in the history of the world. The history of these two religions is interlinked with each other. Both of the religions are further divided into different traditions. In Christianity there are Roman Catholicism, Anglican Communion, Eastern Orthodox Churches, and a group of Protestants. Protestants are further divided into conservative and liberal wings. In Islam, followers are divided into Shiite, Sunni, Sufi, and groups of minorities (Renard, 2011).

Core Elements of these Religious Traditions

Both of the religions share some common beliefs, however in most of the doctrines and beliefs they tend to differ to a greater extent. While, they do share certain similarities and differences, one belief is common among these two religions, and that is the existence of one God, who runs the entire mechanism of the universe, and to whom we all shall be presented at the Day of Judgment for the deeds we have done during our entire life in the world (Oluwunmi, 2010).

Creation Stories

Christianity was founded on 30 AD (CE) by Jesus in Palestine (Israel), while Islam was founded on 622 AD (CE) by Muhammad in Arabian Peninsula. The creation stories of both the religions tend to show some similarities, as both of them share the same belief that the entire world along with all the living beings is the creation of God. Though, Christians do belief that God exists in three forms, God the Father, God the Son (which is known to be Jesus), and God the Hoy Spirit (who is responsible to carry out God's will on the entire earth). However, Muslims have a belief that there is just one God, and that is Allah (Nkurunziza, 2005).

Both the religions have the belief that Jesus will return some day towards the end of the time, which they belief will be the New Creation. There is also a similar belief in both the religions regarding the first human being created by the God, and the person is named as Adam. Eve was created by God as the companion of Adam, and she was created from one of the ribs of Adam. Adam and Eve were sent to live in paradise, and also were allowed to eat anything except one fruit, which they disobeyed, and were sent to the earth as a result.
