Introduction

The civilization of ancient Mexico contained Olmec Culture, which was the mother of Mesoamerican civilization between 1200 BC and 800 BC. After Olmec vanish, several other cultures raised in which the most prominent were the Mayan and Aztecs. The Mexico is being ruled by the Spanish for about two centuries. The Mexico got independence from the Spanish rule on September 16th, 1810. Nowadays, Criollos and Mestizos are the largest part of the population while descendents continue to remain in the minority.

The Mexican culture is one of the most imperative and fascinating one.

Discussion

In recent decades, the main import-export with US has also influenced the Mexican culture significantly. In the colonial period and even into the first decades after independence, the Mexican culture has been influenced directly by Spanish influences. From 1910, since the Mexican revolution, Mexicans have increasingly developed their own momentum. The Mexican literature, art and music today enjoys international recognition. It reflects the turbulent history of this country, ranging from the pre-Columbian cultures of the 300-year colonization by Spain to the influence of the Western world, particularly by the United States in modern times (Teegen, Doh, 2002).

Mexicans value their native heritage and preserved many of the traditions from their ancestors. The most important heritage is the folk music that resembles from the music produced by the ancient Aztec's drums. Mayan traditions are also present in Mexican Culture, in the form of art and paintings. Many Mexican legends are also very famous like the legend of “La llorona” (the weeping women) and the “Quetzalcoatl”, the most prominent figure of the Mexican Cosmogony.
