Mental health case study

Introduction

In this assignment I am discussing the case of Ms BP who is 40 years old belonging to Somali origin. She has been living in UK since 5 years had been granted permanent residency. This assignment will explore the BP's life experience that includes her mental health and care after discharge. I will analyse the social work theories and methods, which can be applied to his case of BP. I will also analyse the potential impacts of theories applied to her case. I will also research the relevant legislations and processes, which BP has experienced from her admission into the hospital. I will also analyse my role as a social worker.

My interventions will be based on crises intervention and other relevant models, which can be used in these interventions. As a social worker, I will first familiarize her experiences and myself about BP history and gather information, which will enable me to gather information about her before visiting the hospital. The initial analysis of the case will ensure that I have followed guidelines for equal opportunities and worked within the anti-discriminatory laws, which are followed in social work values.

BP and her children moved to asylum because of traumatic events she has encountered due to civil war. Before this, BP resided in refugee camp in Kenya where she was raped due to distress and helplessness. She is living alone with three children; her two daughters belong to the age group 10 and 12 who are from her first husband. While living in UK BP had a relationship with Somali man and had a son from her second husband. Their relationship ended and they have no contact with children.

BP other family members live in UK including her mother and son while her relationship with her mother is alienated. BP speaks limited English but she can understand it better. This is due to the lack of communication with interpreters being of the same nationality.

BP has been diagnosed with HIV positive and she is reluctant to provide information on how this was contracted to her. She is substance abuse user, uses cannabis and khat, because of using this BP has lost her mental state.
