Mechanistic and Organic Models of Organizational Structure
Organizational structures can be recognized to be as either Organic or Mechanistic, occupying two separate ends of a hypothetically designed spectrum.
Mechanistic principles are that the most appropriate and effective structure of an organization will have specialist positions, centralized authority, span of control will be narrow, flow of data will be top to bottom with standardized, functional and well-designed departments. All employees are to abide strictly to their job description and through control systems there is tight and strict control (Yong Zhu. 2009).
