The Hapsburg dwelling was at the time the oldest royal house in Europe and one of the most influential. Marie Antoinette grew up pampered and indulged in Austrian Schonbrünn Palace. Maria Teresa was a savvy leader and after closing an coalition with French Bourbon monarch Louis XV, arranged for her very popular female child to be married to the Dauphin (crown prince of France), thereby protecting Marie Antoinette a location as the future ruler of France, then probably the most powerful country in continental Europe.
