It is important to analyze income related effects for both men and women. Analyses show that excess weight of individuals, negatively affect the labor market. Overweight leads individuals towards poor health and health limitations leads to absence from work that affects the rate of productivity. A positive correlation is observed between obesity and disability among American women. With surveys it has reported that absence frequency for women is increased with obesity and the ratio is four out of nine countries whereas for men it can be found in any country. Sizeable employment penalty is observed related to poor health for obese men. However, insignificant difference is seen in employment probability among normal weight and obese men. It has been estimated that obese men are 6 percent less likely to be employed as compare to the normal weight men this can be controlled to an extent by immigrant status, family characteristics and region of residence. Employment penalty can also be reduced by educational controls. For overweight women, employment penalty seems to be smaller and it is not much associated with health issues but still estimates are not enough in order to evaluate this. No significant difference is found in the employment probability between normal weight women and excess weight women.
