Abstract

This paper deals with the discussion on Management Development Techniques. The researcher in this paper claims that it is not about the effective and best practiced technique for the development of management, but it is about the consistent implementation of management development practice. The researcher in this paper i have focused on management development techniques such as Off Site Formal Development Programs, Management Education programs, Outdoor Training, People Skills Development: Emotional Intelligence, and On Site Development (coaching and mentoring). Qualitative research method is used, and the secondary sources are used to collect data. In the end, the research proved that the most effective organization utilizes the appropriate technique to promote management development. The management development technique is not based on effectiveness or best practices but rather on the consistent implementation of management development practice.

Introduction

Organizations are continuously coping with change and learning to deal with it. However the idea of coping with change and learning various things from is not new. Employers have been helping their management to learn and develop themselves since 30 years. The talent to lead is the most valuable and scarce resource available to the organization. Peter Drucker (Management Expert, Teacher, and Author) said, “Only three things happen naturally in the organizations: friction, confusion and underperformance. To do everything else requires leadership. Real management is all about leadership. Managers are required to possess effective leadership skills to in order to have better organizational outcomes (Landale, 1999). Effective development of management is an important component in every successful organization. Development of management is an effectively planned effort to enhance the capabilities and capacities of learners (managers) to efficiently manage themselves and organizations. The most important skills of effective managers/leaders are concise and effective communication, problem identification, definition, solving, and ultimately motivating and influencing other people of the organization (Lombardo & Eichinger, 1998). There are many different techniques of management development.

There are various companies that have focused on much defined approaches to educate their managers/leaders, whereas other organizations have focused on training their manager inslightly different ways. Many of the above mentioned skills can be taught through training and development programs. Training and development can be defined as an ongoing and official educational activity within or outside the organization designed to enhance the performance of employees and ultimately the organization's performance. There are variety of training and developmental educational techniques offered by organizations that can be attended by employees on voluntary or compulsory basis (Cohn, Khurana, & Reeves, 2005). The idea of training pops up in our mind when we think about of management development of an organization. Thus in this paper we are going to explore the concept of training and development for effective development of management in an organization. The purpose of this paper is to let readers know about various effective management developments through training and development along with the positive impact of training and development on managers/leaders and ultimately on organization.
