Discuss three major criticisms/ drawbacks of managed care.

The three major drawbacks of managed care for veterans include the following:

Excessive bonuses given to executives;

The inability to timely process Veteran's disability claims;

High deductibles in Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program.

Excessive Bonuses to Executives

From the above drawbacks of managed care for veterans, it can be observed that veterans are facing problems in receiving the health care service, as the employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs are not performing well despite of their high bonuses. In general, it is noticed that when the employees or executives of any organizations are given or paid high bonuses then their performance increases as the motive of the company is to motivate their employees through high bonus amounts. However, in the case of the Department of Veterans Affairs, employees are not performing as they may have become lazy or they do not understand their responsibilities towards their duties that is, to serve and facilitate the veterans (McCray, 2013).

Inability to Timely Process Veteran's Disability Claims

In addition to this, another crucial factor is the inability to timely process Veteran's disability claims, which relates to the above drawback. It is found that the employees or executives of the department are not facilitating veterans well, which is causing problems (McCray, 2013). Disability claims of veterans are a major issue which should be processed timely in order to make the veterans facilitated.

The availability of Federal Employees Health Benefits Program is to fulfill the needs to the employees and also meeting up their health care needs of families. This allows veterans to have the broad choice selection of health care plans in US. On the other hand, it is observed that veterans have to pay high deductible amounts, when they select high deductible plans (McCray, 2013). For that reason, it is important and crucial that deduction should made low so that the burden from the veterans can be reduced.
