Introduction

A heritage location or site is just similar to peeping into the past through a window; rather than just the history of the edifice, the history and past of the people and the things belonging to the entire community. Heritage comprises of the objects and pictures which are inherited by the people of that area being a community from the past and wish to pass it on as it is to their generations to come. The heritage of a people gives them a sense of the living past and imparts a corporeal linkage to the work and the way of living of the preceding generations. It deepens and enhances the lives of the people and assists in understanding what they presently are and what position they have in the community. The heritage of heritage is miscellaneous and it takes in the conservation precincts, industrial structures, streets, bridges, relics, shipwrecks, archaeological sites, landscapes, bridges, gardens, Aboriginal places, monuments, objects, and buildings.

Bigge Park, Liverpool Community

Bigge Park is one amongst the important cultural and historical importance to the population of Liverpool. It is one amongst the oldest parks in the South West of Sydney, dating back to the year 1810, and it is assumed as exceedingly demonstrative of the initial urban plans of Governor Macquarie for the towns that were established by him in NSW. Governor Macquarie set the name of Bigge Park in the honor of John Thomas Bigge who was nominated in the colony of NSW as the commissioner of inquiry. The park was an essential part of the actual town plan for Liverpool and it has kept up its prime purpose as a central park or a town square from the time when Liverpool was established. The park, for several years has been the point for majority of the celebrations in Liverpool and currently it imparts open space for ceremonies, memorials and monuments. The purpose of this study is to recognize the significance of this historical heritage and to propose measures for ensuring that it remains safe and well maintained in the time to come. Bigge Park is a Crown Land and to its management, applies the Crown Lands Act 1989. Because of the civic and historic significance of the spot, a decision has been taken by the Liverpool Council for preparing a plan of preservation and maintenance of the Begge Park, considering it to be a community land.

The historic value and revelence of the community of Bigge Park, at present, is additionally augmented by its situation close to several other historic and important locations in the Liverpool community. These count in the Dr Pirie Centre - 1948; the Liverpool Railway Station - 1880; the former Liverpool Court House - begun in the 1820s; and the former Liverpool Hospital - started in 1825.
