Background of the concept of knowledge management

The anthology of processes that manage the dissemination, deployment of knowledge and the creation is known as knowledge management. Knowledge management is very important. Knowledge management is a broad and ageless topic. Knowledge management processes have an intense effect on the decisions and actions that made by the people with the help of the some type of knowledge. It is not a thing like a computer or technology. Knowledge management is much more than the things like technology because it is concerned with the whole process of the formation and discovery of knowledge, the utilization of knowledge and dissemination of knowledge. Elements of the knowledge management are very important in everyone's job. There are a number of different and confusing concepts and perspectives about the knowledge management such as few people think that it is related to the technologies and systems, few think that it is related to the learning organizations and the people, other think that it is related to the techniques, processes and methods, and about managing assets of the knowledge. Knowledge management is not a discipline, but it should be an integral part of the responsibilities of the workers in every organization (Alavi & Leidner, 2001, pp 107-136) .

The knowledge management consists of a variety of practices and strategies which are being used in an organization in order to discover and recognize, create, signify, distribute and facilitate implementation of impending experiences. This kind of impending experiences consists of knowledge, no matter embodied in an individual or implanted in an organizational practices and processes. In the digital world, the organizational environment is depicted or differentiated by rapid and quick technological changes, increased global innovations and improvement of communication, and technological mobility. The progression of revealing the concealed and suppressed knowledge permits the variations and modifications of an organization's core competence in order to meet the needs and requirements of the vibrant and ever changing environment. In the recent times, the disciplines that have become the part of knowledge management and are playing their part in putting in to knowledge management research work are; public and policy, public health, computer science and media and information. Most of the large companies have their resources which are committed to internal knowledge management exertions, mostly as an extension of their business strategy or human resource.
