Introduction
The American civil war took place during the year of 1861-1865. It was fought over the withdrawal of the confederacy. The union consisted of 25 states that supported the concept of anti slavery which was against the states of south. The result of the four year was that the confederacy suffered and slavery was outlawed everywhere in the nation. The issues that had initially led to the war were partially solved in the reconstruction era that had followed.
Discussion
The legislation of the civil war consisted of three amendments added to the constitution, the 13th, 14th and 15th. The 13th amendment was adopted right at the beginning of the war and basically prohibited slavery anywhere in the United States. This attempt was to give constitutional expression of the right to liberty. The 13th amendment lead to much dispute by the congress which lead to the civil right act of 1866 and therefore created the 14th amendment. Its main purpose was to protect against law like the black codes in the constitution. The 14th amendment consisted of 5 main clauses, the first defined the citizens, provide protection against state synopses, forbidding the states to deny to any personal life property or liberty without due process of law and the 5th was a provision granting congress the power to enforce the 4th amendment. The 15th amendment, gave protection to the right to vote.. Overall the legislation of the civil war leads to the termination of slavery and gave everyone their natural right under the constitution
