John Winston Lennon was born in Liverpool, England on Oct. 9, 1940, the only child of Fred and Julia Lennon. His parents divorced when he was a toddler, and he was raised by his aunt, Mary Smith. John Lennon's childhood was anything but typical. Lennon's mother, Julia, drifted in and out of his life as a child and then killed in a car accident when Lennon was seventeen. His father was similarly absent, essentially leaving the family when John was a child. He disappeared forever when Lennon was five years old, just after his return, his son became famous as a member of the Beatles'.

As a member of the Beatles, John Lennon was one of the most famous people in the world. As a musician and songwriter, he is popular and music to voice his political views and treats his fans and the world. John Lennon was murdered on Dec. 8, 1980 while trying to enter his home in New York. Dead at the age of 40, John Lennon was one of the most prolific composers of the 20 th century.
