James Cameron Films

Introduction

Thematically the films of James Cameron are dedicated to the exploration of the relationship between man and technology, and, paradoxically, all the technology used to create the task of showing the dangerous side of the technology itself: the war of man-machine Terminator saga, who wants to use the corporate aliens of Aliens as a biological weapon, the tragedy of the "largest moving object ever built in human history," the Titanic (Marc, 44).

In interviews Cameron speaks of respect for the public, rules of the show, receiving multi-level. He says that the film has to think and reflect, but the intellectual superstructure should never overlap or obscure the experience of pleasure, the visceral impact of catharsis with what looks and recovers the viewer an active role of imagination, experimentation, the creation of meanings (Marc, 46).

Comparative Analysis

Avatar Movie

With Avatar, Cameron has delivered a fast-paced fantasy adventure that intertwines together powerful themes that are relevant in modern day society. These themes are made fairly obvious, which makes it fairly easy for the viewer to correlate to their personal life. For instance, issues with corporations polluting or destroying nature for economic profit, the lack of respect for nature, and the homogeneity of all living beings in nature, are all woven directly into the movies storyline (Wilhelm & Dirk , 4).

Directed by James Cameron, Avatar is a movie of the Sci-Fi Action genre, set in the year 2154. The story revolves around Earthlings who travel to a distant moon named Pandora in the Alpha Centauri star system. These Earthlings are trying to mine a precious mineral called "Unobtanium" on Pandora, to avoid an energy catastrophe back home (Wilhelm & Dirk, 5). The Na'vi, who are the people of Pandora, are 10-feet tall, long-tailed, yellow-eyed blue creatures, who feel threatened by this invasion and are thus unfriendly towards the Earthlings. Since the atmosphere of Pandora is poisonous to human existence, the humans devise a way to transform themselves into a hybrid between humans and some Na'vi DNA so that they can survive their time on Pandora. These are Avatars of the humans. The story also has a love story between one of the Avatars and a female Na'vi warrior, who battles against many unearthly creatures.

The movie has been in writing for the past 10 years by Cameron but was put on hold until technology could advance enough to match the director's imagination. The visual effects and computer-generated imagery of the movie may give audiences something new to look forward to, even though some of the battle scenes look as if they have been seen in earlier movies. The love story also adds a bit of interest for the viewer (Barnes, 1). Some scenes may seem unrealistic, like when the battle between the Na'vi who are fighting back with bows and arrows and Earthlings attack with advanced strong weapons. It seems like there is confusion between the future and the present real world. But above the story line, it is more of the visual effects ...
