Introduction

Project management is considered as one of the most advanced techniques which play a prominent role in the success of IT projects. Project management is referred as the procedure of controlling and managing the achievement of the objectives of the project by using all available resources and structures. In the field of IT projects, project management aims to implement different techniques and tools in order to get the desired results and outcomes from the project. Project management incorporates various features. These features may include adjustments of deviation of the project from the plan, monitoring of project operations, project planning and appropriate allocation of the resources. In the current era, various project management approaches are used by the organizations and businesses, in order to get success in their IT projects. Waterfall and agile project management approaches are one of the most innovative project management approaches which play a vital role in the success of IT projects. Both of these techniques may greatly help the organizations and IT personnel in getting their pre defined goals and objectives (Highsmith, 2008, pp. 125-128).

Furthermore, these techniques also play a vital role in enhancing the efficiency of project and may allow the IT personnel to enhance the customer satisfaction. In addition to this, these project management approaches also enables the IT personnel to enhance the flexibility and integrity of the project. Moreover, it is also observed that, a part from these two techniques, an approach of risk management also plays a prominent role in the success of the IT project (Ccpace, 2009, pp. 8-12). The proceeding paper incorporates the idea of agile and waterfall project management approaches. Furthermore, this study also includes the differences between both of these approaches. Importance risk management, in terms of project success is also discussed in the proceeding paper. Some project management approaches, other than waterfall and agile, are also discussed in this study. Some recommendations are also provided in this study. These recommendations may greatly help the organizations in achieving successful IT projects.

Discussion

Recent researches and studies demonstrate that, project management approaches may play a leading role in the success of IT project. Project management is nothing more than the management of project's resources including personnel, technologies, time etc., in order to get the desired results. It is often observed that, agile and waterfall management approaches are the most prominent techniques of project management. Furthermore, risk management approaches may also play an efficient role in the success of IT projects. The proceeding paper incorporates the brief over view of waterfall and agile project management approaches.
