Executive Summary

The main purpose of this research paper is to examine different issues affecting the diversity in organizations and the organizations manage to create and maintain an environment of positive work with valuation of individual differences and similarities. The research includes various factors emphasized on organization: issues, organizational policies, practices of management and inequity practices. The conclusion is reliable with a view of organizational variables in heading and employing issues affecting diversity. This research also highlights the significance of diversity management in handling issues. The research will focus on problems and issues of diversity and organizational climate. In the last, conclusion has been given based on the literature and research.

Diversity in Organizations

Introduction

The theory of diversity comprise of respect and acceptance. According to Church in Kenyon (2005), diversity is defined as, “ An organizational setting of collective individuals who have difference based on culture, marital status, gender, education, values and religion. It includes understanding the uniqueness and recognition of differences each individual. The framework of diversity positioned to affirmative action strengthening from law and act with objectives of equal employment opportunity. The reason behind this objective was tokenism as hiring of an individual into an organization with a difference of a dominant group. These differences also include the dimensions of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, race, physical ability, political beliefs, age, religious beliefs, socioeconomic beliefs and other ideologies. Diversity encourages conscious practices which involve appreciating and understanding interdependence of cultures, humanity and natural environment.

The global village of 21st century is the inclusion by diversity that reflects multicultural work group force, and a globalized economy where diversity of thought is the measurement of value and individual practical perspectives are acknowledged to benefit the organization. Multiculturalism and the value of diversity and discrimination in organizations, literature fails to deal the serious issues of differences in number of organizations. In particular, more concentration must be paid to avoid backlash against multiculturalism, the resistance within institutional differences of organization and disappointment of minorities and women (Prasad & Mills, 2007).

Workplace Diversity

Workplace diversity is one of the most discussed issues in circles of management while actual analysis has been limited in view of academic interest (Prasad & Mills, 2007). It had two perspectives: critical and functionalist perspectives. Problems and issues of control and power have crucial consequences for all organizational members, and it can affect on marginalized groups of the organization. For example, ethnic and racial minorities, women, gays, the elderly and individuals with disabilities. The individuals with the dominant group always work to strength their grip, increase power and maintain their control, on the other hand, the powerless group and inferior position holders work to find system equity. These kinds of dynamic activities lead to clashes and extra measures and efforts must be taken to resolve these tensions. In critical workplace diversity analysis seeks deep approach into organization's inner working environment in order to expose inequities of system of the organization.
