Islam

Introduction

A grouping of systems of culture and belief and the global views that link spirituality to humanity and even to moral or ethical values is known as Religion. Religion as a word sometimes used interchangeably with belief or faith system, but it differs from personal belief as it has a civic aspect. It is a collection of belief systems, cultural systems, and global views that narrate mankind to theology, and at times to moral values. Several religions have symbols, narratives, traditions and sanctified histories that give meaning to life and help to explain the origin of the universe and life (Harvey, 2000).

The growth and development of any religion has varied from culture to culture, some focus on the beliefs while others focus on practice. Islam is a religion that has its origin from the time of Abraham and basis laid in Quran; it is a book that is considering by the Muslims as the text laid down by God (Allah) and the teachings of Islam are called Sunnah (comprising of Hadith of Muhammad) taught by the last Prophet of God. A person who believes in Islam is known as a Muslim. (Monaghan et.al, 2000)

Discussion

The belief of the Muslims is that there is only one God (Allah) and that human are here in this world for a purpose which is to love God and serve him only. They also believe that Islam is a complete religion and believe that Islam is a complete code of life which has been revealed by God time and again through different Prophets. They believe that the previous revelation by God have either been a change or got corrupted, and Quran is the only text that never have been a change in past or can be alter in future. It is the final revelation by Allah and will remain the same forever. Muslims believe that there are five basic rules of Islam which are obligatory for every Muslim and have an impact on the social and personal live, giving directions on every topic that exists in the human world. Majority of the Muslim community is of Sunnis (75 to 90%) and the other large groups belong to the Shia sect (10 to 20%).

Islam and the human life

Religion gives a platform to express ideas. It teaches a way of life. It gives an opportunity to come together and unite as a community. It provides a common foundation, which is essential for a final build up towards a decent life. Religion is the most important part of life that enables to channelize the thoughts and helps to act according to it.

The teachings of the religion Islam cover all aspects of human life, which reinforces the belief that Muslims should be aware at all times about the presence of God. It believes that the actions of human are done to achieve the acceptance of God and to live their lives in accordance to the law laid down in Quran.
