Ischemic Stroke

Introduction

Stroke is classified as a cardiovascular disorder or cerebrovascular disease or apoplexy. Generally stroke means there is some resistance in proper flow of blood in vessels supplying blood to the brain. Adequate amount of blood is not reaching the brain tissues, which is necessary for proper functioning. Oxygen is very necessary for every part of the body, likewise the brain. Hemoglobin is an important constituent of blood that carries oxygen; if blood is not reaching its place then definitely the oxygen demand of brain cannot be fulfilled. The disturbance in blood flow is caused by many reasons, sometimes temporary and sometimes permanent. Blockage or a rupture in a blood vessel is responsible for inadequate blood supply to the brain. Stroke is a rapid loss of brain function. It is occurred due to insufficient circulation of blood to brain. World Health Organization describes the cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) as sudden focal or global cerebral dysfunction at least 24 hours or more in duration, vascular in origin and it can be fatal. Stroke remains a leading cause of death and disability, and patient outcomes are dependent on early access to emergency treatment. However, despite public education campaigns, many patients and carers fail to recognize the symptoms of stroke and often delay accessing medical services. This paper reports Ischemic stroke patients' description of their symptoms and the sequence of events which lead them to seeking medical treatment.

Neurofeedback therapy is a method for direct training and getting real time feedback of brain function. Through Neurofeedback therapy, humans can be made to use their brain more efficiently through optimization of brain functioning. Neurofeedback therapist uses this method for observing the brain activity from moment to moment and then providing the information to their patients in real time. Neurofeedback therapist then rewards the brain for altering its own activities to more suitable and appropriate patterns. Neurofeedback therapy is a gradual and steady learning process. This report studied the patient's therapy procedure and evaluated participant of of the treatment as progress for her. Some of the observations were also provided by participant's best friend. As per participant's best friend, she has become more expressive and at the same time more frustrated by the physical limitations caused to her by coma.

Discussion

The brain is excessively vulnerable system, minor infarct or blockage can lead to severe disabilities of other organs of the body. Because the brain is a main controlling organ that orders other systems to work and monitor all imbalances which occur in normal scenario as well as due to any untoward condition, by which the body is not familiarize. Almost 85% of all stroke case are due to ischemia, which means minimum or lack of oxygen supply, demanded by brain for normal functioning. Stroke is a dangerous disease which affects the arteries leading towards the brain. It is the third largest cause of death in the United States of America, behind diseases of cancer and heart. An occurring of a stroke takes place, ...
