Introduction

Interpersonal communication is "the process of exchanging messages, usually between two people, to create and share meaning" (Sole, 2011). The movie "Crash" shows numerous examples of interpersonal conflicts between different characters in which all are interlocked with another. This paper will identify one of the interpersonal conflicts of many that was poorly handled, and how it could have been dealt with in a different way. Conversation is an important part of connecting with others and forming relationships. It is the way things are said verbally or non- verbally to how an individual will react or decide to form a relationship with another.

The basic principle of all communication is the influence the environment in which we live, for there to influence the message must have fidelity that can be understood and the issuer to achieve its objective in communication. The message must be expressed and interpreted perfect for this are the encoder and decoder. In fidelity, however, there is also noise. Noises are all factors that distort the signal quality of whatever it is. If no noise will increase loyalty, but loyalty is no noise will decrease. Then there is a role of interpersonal communication which is basically a higher form of communication and has got lot of importance when it takes place between two or among more people. In this topic, the main focus will be on the interpersonal communication which takes place in a movie. Therefore, the connection of the interpersonal communication with various consequences of ineffective interpersonal communication leading to conflicts would be discussed.

Discussion & Analysis

Theme of Crash

The Oscar-winning film, Crash, co-written and directed by Paul Haggis, is model of social conflicts and ethical difference. Crash is chocked up with circumstances portrayed of interpersonal conflicts in a multi-cultural society owing to stereotyping, racism, and miscommunications. Racial and ethnic differences in Crash are treated as impressions of a profoundly subjective estrangement instead of founded on the worldwide division of labor that sets out difference for profit. Social conflicts are seen in Crash as externalizations of an essentially internal (and worldwide) crisis.

Crash also focuses on communication within multi- cultural environment. As people sometimes are likely to overlook that certain gesticulations or remarks can be distasteful or have reverse meanings than what is believed by them, when communicating with individuals of varied cultural backgrounds. The wrong message may also be communicated through tone of voice, body language, or facial expressions while communicating with someone in an upset or distracted mood. While interpersonal communication, these factors should be taken into consideration.
