Introduction

From the analysis of recommended readings, the paper discusses critical skills, which are essentially required by business leaders to successfully lead their international business intelligence (BI) teams in an age of information and technology boom. Furthermore, it discusses techniques, which can be effectual to develop a decision support system (DSS) in an organization.

Discussion

Trend of globalization has transformed the world into a global village; it has entitled companies and business executives to access their customers even beyond their transnational boundaries. On one end, decision to go international benefits companies with vast markets and access to resources, distribution incentives, economical locations, and enhanced customer database (Sauter, 2010). On the contrary, it increases market and industrial competition, geographical dispersions with greater exposure to macroeconomic factors that affect business operations and decision making processes (Sauter, 2010).

To deal with these shifts in the macroeconomic environment, businesses and enterprises have created various teams at the corporate level, which are responsible to manage and communicate information and report on the effectiveness of business strategies and their possible impact on society and markets (Hitachi Consulting, 2009).

Leading an International BI Team

BI teams and strategies are outlined to ensure a cohesive path of progress between enterprise strategies and their rightful execution. BI's may enable an organization to earn competitive advantage by truly satisfying the needs and demands of their customers (Garrett, 2012). However, in the international arena, leading a BI team is embraced with challenging tasks and competitive leadership skills, which are requisite to ensure that BI team is leading organization in the right direction by designing compatible and alterable decision support systems. A leader is required to recognize the true worth of business resources by designing a comprehensive interconnected network of right tools, right people, and right data (figure 1).
