Information Management System

Introduction

The scientists and philosophers have been researching for the concerns in creating, acquiring, and communicating the information and knowledge in order to improve the utilization of this knowledge. This utilization can take place by implementing a mechanism or management system in the organizations. Thus, the past 15-20 years of researches resulted in the foundation of the field of “knowledge management” (KM). This field is based on the theory that the organizations possess the knowledge that can not be fully utilized without the efforts of the human beings involved to draw the potential of their brains.

A knowledge management system enables an organization to acquire the useful knowledge and create an environment to make the knowledge available at a time and place. Through this an organisation can achieve the maximum effective usage of its information, which may influence the organisation's performance positively. The scientists believed that if any organization utilizes the knowledge by a small percentage that may result in great benefits. Organisational learning (OL) is essential in KM as the early observations of OL were to encode inferences from the history and forming the routines that may help to guide the behavior (Levitt & March, 1988, p. 319).
