Information Management

Information Management

1.

Conventional information systems deployed by enterprises have developed into a stage where fundamental information needs of the enterprise are, more or less, met satisfactorily. The flow of information amongst customers and staff involving major business operations and functions is generally understood (Steinke, & Nikolette, 2003, pp. 52-63). As for the THB Confectionary, it needs to expand its information system in order to integrate social networking activities of the customers that have been resulted from the competition initiated by the company some years ago. The information system should also include data mining capability for the purpose of advising on how social networking could form part of the infrastructure of the organisation and its business. The main purpose here for THB Confectionary is to build on the internet technologies that would allow THB to take a further step from data to insight.

The system of information in organizations is majorly introspective. The main focal point is the management of operational data islands for the support of service functions and introspective businesses. The chief web link is externalized and is then balanced by the internalized intranet sites (Nowduri, 2011, pp. 1-8). These internalized systems have similar main attributes like a small staff dedicated to individual systems; all of which are disjointed; all the systems are data islands; particular training is essential for mastery of all of the systems with almost no similarity in the skills of training. The exponential growth of the internet has gone on and the interaction nature of the internet has undergone a huge difference. Gone are the static pages which were monitored by the Search Engines, the write/read of internet is also upgrading more and more. Millions of websites which are interactive have achieved the status of information systems. The standard web page within the internet browser is now considered as a standard interface design which the user quickly becomes familiar. All individual users have allegiance to a variety of communities and the population of these users is determined by authentication mechanisms only (Becker, et al., 2003, pp. 231-263).

Web 2.0 is the latest information universe. The information here refers to the modern write/read sites like the systems of social media to stress the user community sense and overlapping of the goal. When a user belongs to multiple communities he/she is able to take part in a variety of organizations or enterprises even if all these communities are purely virtual. Newer and newer way of fulfillment and participation are becoming possible each day. It is no longer only an idea that even physical organizations can take advantage of the rapidly expanding systems of social media. The brands of enterprise could be fortified and made increasingly visual if these systems of social media are used in tandem with the information systems which already exist (Steinke, & Nikolette, 2003, pp. 52-63).
