Informatics Competencies for Nurses

Introduction

In the late 60's was installed the first computer system in hospitals in developed countries. These systems were funded primarily to process orders, charge sheets and billing accounts. The base of nursing informatics is able to interpret the data into information, and interpret information to turn it into knowledge, which through experience is transformed into wisdom (Preheim et al. 2009). The essence of nursing is caring; this requires nurses capable of critical thinking that have expertise in the management of their technology without dehumanizing act, competencies to be achieved in the academic study of the profession.

The Clinical Information System

Indeed, along with the introduction of new techniques and procedures, has led an increasing amount of clinical information.
