Introduction

It was claimed by a number of outlets that the U.S war on drugs is not achieving the targets reviewing the recent access in use of drugs on every corner of our society. One cannot actually evaluate the failure or success of the policy on drug usage in an objective manner. The performance of the past decades shows that the focus is expanding more towards the production and trade of the addressed issue (Hakim, 2011). The delivery of controlled substances is not reduced due to the increase in the consumption of the product. The drug policy is considered sensitive in many countries due to its impact on social and political stability of a country. To combat the war against drugs, there are programs initiated that can take this issue with a different perspective rather than the tradition approach which was not supporting it anyhow. The National Drug Control Policy in collaboration with the Substance Abuse and Mental Services Administration under the Drug-Free communities support Program is committed to providing grants to local communities that are working to prevent the youth from this deadly issue (NDCB,2013).

The National policy on Drug control is spending a huge amount on preventive outcomes including various federal, state and local programs that even identify the high intensity drug trafficking areas for the assistance of law enforcement agencies in order to implement the policy on the affected grounds. The federal budget was $25.4 billion requested by the president of the United States in reducing the usage of drugs (ONDCP, 2012). The strategy defined numbers of outcomes that are expected out of the budget but critics follow this issue as it is more considered as less effective public policy against the crime United States is combating for many decades now.

Discussion

Political Achievements and Considerations

Historically, reviewing this particular issue one can find the federal government enforcing drug abuse policy back in 1914 when the first Act was passed. Later a number of changes in policies were considered as more advanced drugs, and its smuggling was introduced by cartels. President Nixon was the first one to declare war against drugs who engaged agencies confronting the abusive use along with the supply and demand of illegal substances. In 1972, the budget for Drug Enforcement Administration was $65 which is dramatically increased in recent years. The current budget in 2013 was $2.771 Millions which is separately enforcing Anti Drug abuse laws. There is limited social improvement examined in achieving the guidelines that were processed through the formal regulations (ONDCP, 2012). The political commitment against the issue is attended conventionally where the demand is pretty high in numbers as the impact of drugs is growing day by day. The measures that are taken by Washington are analytically suggesting no proper solution f the problem itself. The other corners of the critics essentially evaluate the actual drug inflicts which according to them are leading towards an increase of consumption.
