Decision

I have faced many challenges and difficulties since childhood but I always face them with hard work and dignity. Two years ago, my mother died in cancer. Initially, doctors couldn't diagnose her illness. She was getting pale day by day. After few months, doctors told us that she has cancer and would not live long. I was the only child of my parents and the only person who was the caregiver to my mother. Due to some financial crisis, I couldn't save my mother with new advanced medical treatment and care. Since then, I started thinking critically on the ways of serving cancer patients by choosing medical field as my career.

Decision-Making Process

Decision making involves following steps:

Define the problem

There are many cancer patients who require proper treatment and care but due to lack of awareness of medical treatments and poor financial crisis in the state, people could not afford the expensive treatments. Therefore, I decided to do something for those who are suffering from this life threatening disease.

Identify Limiting Factors

There are many limiting factors that can be threatening to my decision of choosing medical field. These factors include:

Lack of finance

Lack of proper counseling and guidance

Limited information about the educational institutions that offer doctorate degree programs

Develop potential alternatives

The degree programs consist of various medical field for example skin, kidney, brain, eyes, dentistry etc. these are some of the alternatives that must be chosen on the basis of area of interest.

Analyze the alternatives

Brainstorming and group discussion will help me to come to the final decision. Research will be conducted on various medical areas and the details of the degree programs that universities are offering. Proper budget plan will also help me to choose best alternative.

Select the best alternative

I want to become skin specialist as my mother faced skin cancer and so, I want to serve skin cancer patients who cannot afford proper medical treatments.

Implement the decision

I chose one of the best medical institutes of the state and will get an admission in the upcoming semester.

Establish a control and evaluation system

After getting admission, I would be able to know my capabilities and skills that define my field and will assure that I achieve my goal in accordance with proper review of academic performance and results.

The processes and products of inquiry deriving from practices of reflexive thinking and critical debate. The idea of a community of critical thinkers remains a guiding ideal of a culture of critical discussion. The term is often associated with the representatives of the Frankfurt School of 'Critical Theory' in Hegelian-Marxist philosophy and sociology. Critical theory fostered forms of inquiry that question the status quo, examine ideological assumptions and intervene in the ethical and political questions of the wider society. In Habermas' terminology the central characteristic of critical thought is a commitment to emancipatory reason.
