Individual and Organizational Values

Introduction

Moral values and believes are the benchmarks we can set in our lives. These benchmarks guide us in making choices that support our moral scheme. The values and believes thus define the desirability or undesirability of an act or object (Chippendale, 2001). In this assignment, I have briefly outlined my personal values and have compared these values with the values of American Supermarket Publix.

Discussion

Moral individual values not only inspire us but also provide energy, and motivation to do something meaningful. I believe that by accepting the failure to be sensitive makes us guilty which helps in constructive dissatisfaction (Tucker, 2004). It is of concern to be honest with one by avoiding self serving hypocrisy. I desire to achieve this by recognizing differences between verbal values and operational acts. It is easy to say that temptations to be dishonest or taking advantage of the situation for oneself should be shunned but to practice this behavior is truly hard. This can be achieved by realizing a big gap between surviving just by the side of law or to strictly follow the law (Tucker, 2004). I have gained inspiration from many authors' work which includes Steven Covey's “seven habits of highly effective people”. He emphasized on the need of preparing vision and mission statement, set of values and guiding philosophy of life (Tucker, 2004).

I also got inspired from Hogan who proposed five factors to determine our moral behavior. These are:

Socialization to self evaluates what is right and wrong Moral judgment to think reasonably.

Moral feelings to experience the guilt and shame if we do not practice what we have learnt.

Empathy to develop awareness of others' situation and feelings,

Confidence and knowledge to help others and respect them (Everett, 2006)
